A moving true story located in pennsylvania. two young teens reunited with their father who is the ring leader of a family run band of theives that go around the country side stealing farm equipment. The oldest boy wants to join the family and eventually both have joined their day and they witness a murder their dad committed. Now the father has decided he needs to kill them both and does indeed kill the youngest and kills the oldest sons girlfriend then tries to kill the oldest but is befuggled in his attempt and is finally brought to justice where the ending scene shows the oldest son pointing out his father in court as his attempted murderer. This movie really touchs ya and makes you feel the emotions. Very highly recommended.

  • Great Story of how Greed can ruin Family!

Sean Penn has never played in anything that wasn't top grade! This is an 80's movie but most 80 movies were awesome! Loved it and one you can watch over and over and never get tired! Good plot and keeps you interested!

  • Fact-based story with splendid performances

A gripping story of small town southern rural crime and a young man's effort to escape his own dysfunctional family drama - when people talk about Christopher Walken's best performances, they often overlook this one, which I think is nothing short of mesmerizing. Sean Penn, along with the supporting cast members, are likewise effective and entirely believable.

  • Superior performances

I've enjoyed this movie for years -- superb performances by Walken and Penn and the others, and it's especially nice to see Millie Perkins (of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK) again. James Foley's direction is striking, yet not intrusive. The characters are powerful creations -- Walken's is one of the nastiest creeps you'll ever see on screen. A minor classic, well worth owning.
