While being an older game, I had never played it. I continue to replay Age of Empires and Age of Kings quite bit for fun. So I thought I'd get a little more modern game of sorts, and I like these types of games. No pressure most of the time to rush into things. I have a series of Ghost Recon, and I have Shogun, and some Tomb Raiders, but enjoy things like Age of Empires setup. I received this game and was having issues with it on Windows 7 32bit system. After a couple days of research on why my game wouldn't play, but install ok it seemed, just would not play...I found an item about an update installed that was the issue. It turned out that KB3082655 if installed is the issue. I removed that update, and the games seems to work just fine now. So...for what it is worth to anyone finally buying this game, late as it may be like me, and has issues with Windows 7 32bit, or 64bit, perhaps that KB is the issue. Remove it and perhaps you'll be having fun such as myself now. From what I can say so far, and only playing a learning game, there is a fair difference in how to achieve things like in Age of Empires, and selecting buildings to build, advancements and troop building, but surely with more practice it all become natural. I look forward to playing it some more, but thing was to share my problem about it not working at all at first. Hope it helpsRead full review

First off, I am an old guy! I am retired and tired, so I don't play video games very often. I bought Rise of Nations for the long winters we have here in Montana, as a diversion from the mindless drivel that is on TV. I find that I have had a load of fun already. The instructions are very easy to understand, and the format of the game makes it easy to get started right away. The game has two aspects, the sims and the fight. You need to get on the sims in order to build an army to fight, so they are linked. Being a non gamer, this provides no down time, and you stay busy through out the entire process. The graphics are very well done, from the start in primitive man, right up to the modern world where you go from sticks and arrows and swords to tanks and airplanes and nukes. There are several levels of game play, from easy to very hard. Easy is exactly that, it is nearly impossible to loose, and very hard, it is extremely hard to best the computer, at least for a non gamer. There is a on-line game play, but I have not had the time to try that out yet. All in all, it is worth a few bucks to try out at least. You can download a trail version from Microsoft, and as the game is a few years old, you can get it pretty cheap here on eBay. It is worth a try in my opinion.Read full review
RTS games are probably my favorite. I would have to say that this game is definitely a good one... though it is a little older. I would have to say that it is very similar to Age of Empires in format and play, you advance ages, gain certain units, and build your army's. the reason that i rate it a 4 instead of a five is because i have honestly played better (civilization, Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth, etc.) one reason that this pulls a second instead of a first is the micromanagement of your nation. In civilization you don't have to be quite as precise and exact. Also I tend to lean more toward fantasy instead of real life (LOTR) because it tends to capture my imagination better. However, some of these things may be pros and not cons to other players.
