Wishbone Ash Still Smoking!
I am a fan of classic rock, and Wishbone Ash is a band that upholds the standard in their own way! Product arrived safely, brand new, and the sound quality was crisp, very clean! This CD is a long-time favorite of mine, and I have the same album that I have had in my collection for years so I am very familiar with their music. Twin lead guitars, great harmonies, this is one for the ages!

Timeless and Underrated, Wishbone Ash is the Real Deal
I consider myself a pretty big music fan, particularly when it comes to most areas of rock. So I was shocked when I heard "Phoenix" on satellite radio and had to look at the screen to see what this cool song was and who the band was. Where have these guys been hiding for all these decades? So I looked them up, saw that Argus was supposed to be one of their better albums, and saw that this remastered edition also had a few extra live songs, including Phoenix. It also seems that the Ash have a cult following, and I can just hear all their real fans arguing about who knew them first and all that business. Anyway, this album seems to mix blues, prog, "old rock", and some Zeppelinesque rock, not to mention paving the way for Iron Maiden and others with their dueling lead guitars! Some ... I consider myself a pretty big music fan, particularly when it comes to most areas of rock. Some might even say they were decades ahead of the shoegazers too! Tempo changes, soft/loud, and dark/light dynamics abound. As most will say, the vocals are thin but the lyrics and phrasing are effective, and they do create a certain feel. At any rate, the songs usually build up into long instrumental workouts once the verse/bridge/chorus/bridge stuff is out of the way. My wife liked the album too, even after thinking it was going to be another one of my weird bands that she doesn't like, such as Modest Mouse (whom I saw years before they made it) or Love (whom I saw only once, decades after their brief original career, and not too long before Arthur's passing). I can't compare the sound of the original mastering, but this remastered edition sounds nice, and again, it's nearly impossible to guess the era that this album was written or recorded. Rock on, Wishbone Ash people!

UPDATED REVIEW A classic rock masterpiece. One of the best twin-guitar attacks in rock history. Admittedly, it took a while to grow on me. The songs take time to develop. At first, that threw me off. But later, I grew to appreciate the fact that each song has so many parts that the magic is to be found in the transitions. Also, the vocals are very laid back which didn't really draw me in years ago. But now they just blend perfectly with the overall vibe of the tunes. The harmonies are subtle and smooth as glass, a great contrast to the heaviness of the music. I was lucky enough to see them live earlier this year, and their performance was absolutely stunning! I can't believe a band that is 50 years old could be this good. In closing, if you love intricate tasteful guitar ... UPDATED REVIEW A classic rock masterpiece. ORIGINAL REVIEW (2009) I am a steadfast classic rock fan. Digging back deeper every year to find the great albums that I missed. Ones that did not chart as well as the other classic rock bands in heavy rotation since the 70's. From the cover alone I thought this CD would be great. That mysterious iconic figure looking into the distance drew me in. I checked out some 30 second samples of the songs and liked what I heard. Sounded very rich and textured. When I got the CD and started checking out the songs I was disappointed. The songs seemed to kind of meander along aimlessly. The melodies and the hooks just weren't there. The length of the songs were not justified by the lack of changes in dynamic and style. Maybe it's one of those things were I listened to it on the wrong day and it just didn't hit me right. I will put it in the "listen to a few years later" bin and see if I feel differently.

Solid middle earth prog-rock.
I remember this band from the '70's. I saw them in Kansas City in 1972 at the Cowtown Ballroom. Great show. The first time I saw an Orange brand amplifier. I have Argus on vinyl and enjoyed it very much over the years, but hadn't heard it for a while. I decided to buy a cd of it and was very happy I purchased it. I am a big fan of Andy Powell's Gibson flying V through a saturated Orange amp. Sounds great to me.I remember this band from the '70's. I saw them in Kansas City in 1972 at the Cowtown Ballroom. I heard about Wishbone Ash in the seventies but never really enjoyed their particular style until this year. On Pandora I heard a few songs that were really good. ARGUS I think is their defining album which covers many of their best songs. Their are always a few songs that stand out and this album produces them. Good Product Good Price Thanks, Klsmith1969
