The rules of war changed in 2025. In a worldwide effort to save the lives of millions, wars were to be fought in cyberspace over the World Wide War Web (WWWW). This system worked well for a while, the power of each army determined by the actual economic and military status of every country in the world. However, hackers and saboteurs eventually began to wreck havoc, shifting the balance of power and even creating wars between allied nations. Chaos ensued with no one in control. Something had to be done.<br><br>In Wargasm, you control an effort to bring peace to cyberspace as you deploy and command your troops in real-time combat. Composed of infantry, Apache helicopters and armored vehicles, the army you lead into battle faces merciless opposition. Most of your commands are executed via the map as you designate which of your units should attack specified enemies. When you feel inclined to jump into the action yourself, you can choose a unit to control manually. But be careful! Paying too much attention to one unit can mean bad news elsewhere on the map. <br><br>Each type of unit you deploy has its own strengths and weaknesses. Infantry, while slow and easily destroyed, are not easily seen, heard or detected by enemy radar. Helicopters attack quickly with great speed and power but are vulnerable to ground attacks. Finally, armored vehicles such as tanks can withstand a great deal of firepower while dealing out a substantial amount as well. However, they move slowly over certain types of terrain and can be destroyed from the air or by sneaky infantrymen. <br><br>Wargasm features four types of play. The main type, War Web, requires you to defeat the forces of seven world regions. This is the most strategy-oriented and the command map is essential. More action-oriented is the Instant Action mode in which you must achieve mission objectives in six timed levels, each increasingly difficult. If you'd like to compete against other Wargasm players, Internet play is available via www.heat.net. Finally, in order to prepare yourself for all of these other modes of play, a Training mode teaches you the ropes in controlling tanks, infantry and helicopters.
