Sidda Walker (Sandra Bullock), who is high on life--about to marry Connor (Angus MacFadyen) and flushed with success because her new play is about to open on Broadway--gives an unguarded interview to TIME Magazine. After reading the interview, Sidda's mother, Vivi (Ellen Burnstein), is so livid that she disowns Sidda, takes down her pictures, and refuses to attend her daughter's wedding. Trying to heal the rift between mother and daughter, Vivi's best friends, Caro (Maggie Smith), Teensy (Fionnula Flanagan), and Necie (Shirley Knight), go to New York, take Sidda to dinner, slip her a Mickey Finn, and spirit her off to Louisiana.<BR>First-time director Callie Khouri (writer of THELMA AND LOUISE) uses an intricate series of flashbacks to slowly reveal the DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD, which is based on the book by Rebecca Wells. The flashbacks are triggered by a scrapbook that Caro, Teensy, and Necie show Sidda. The scrapbook chronicles the hopes, dreams and disappointments that they shared with Vivi. Standouts in the great cast are Ashley Judd, as the younger Vivi, and Maggie Smith as the feisty Caro.

    Yaya Sisterhood

    A great film for the girls, shows how being friends and knowing each other can last forever with the right friends. Warm and funny great for a girls night in. Not really a film guys could relate to

    Strange title indeed

    What could you expect with a title like that? I did not have very high hopes for this story, but as it turned out, it really gripped me and I love to send it off for my daughter to see as well. It handles the misunderstandings between the generations excellently, and how many daughters ever really get to know their mothers? Or at least they think they know it all. It has many revelations and surprises, so keep the hankies ready, you might need them. Though I rally would not call it a tearjerker, mostly very funny, excellent acting from all the ladies and girls and it is hard to praise anyone in particular, because these are stellar performances from each and every one of the cast. Both thumbs up ... YAYA YAYA

    Quite simply every mum and daughter should own this movie - its heartbreaking, hilarious and very special and gives a brilliant insight to both sides of the coin. Awesome!
