Taito Corporation's take on the Atari classic Breakout makes its debut on the DS, some 22 years after the original first graced arcades. Something of a classic in its own right, Arkanoid updated the tried and true ball and paddle formula by adding indestructible bricks, floating enemies, varied level arrangements, and falling power-ups. Square Enix (which purchased Taito in 2005) adds some flash to the original by providing single-cart multiplayer options for two or four, a new instant restart function so the action doesn't stop until the game is over, splashy visuals, and a rock soundtrack from Taito's sound team.

Not exactly like the original but still lots of fun!
Got my Arkanoid DS yesterday and eagerly tried it out. It is cute. Not really like the original too much. The backgrounds are different & there are no flying objects around you as you play. The blocks are similar to the original, but much less blocks. You can change the background, the vaus, the level of play (easy,normal & hard) and the music. So far I've reached 25th level (on the normal play) I think and I'm having fun. Even if it's not like the original, it is still enjoyable to play. I use the stylus and it plays just fine. I am going to try to reach the end to see if the ending is similar to the original as I loved the ending. Also, you can play against the DS or Wi-Fi. Review for Arkanoid ds
I have played arkanoid before and it was always fun. so I decided to buy it for the ds. it is disappointing because they tried to utilize the nintendo ds 2 screens by using both of it for the playing board. the problem with that, is that there's a big 1-2 inch space between your screens. when the ball bounces from the top screen to the bottom screen, it disappears for a second, until it reappers again. that's very annoying.
