The best of several Treasure Is. movies. Why no DVD??
Very overlooked presentation of this classic tale which has several movie versions. Charlton Heston is great in his role as the pirate and a young Christian Bale shows the promise of his current stardom in the new Batman series. I loved reading this book when I was young and this movie treatment does not disappoint. It's never easy competing with an excellent, classic novel but this movie does it justice by keeping true to the tale.Very overlooked presentation of this classic tale which has several movie versions. My class loves Treasure Island!
I am a fifth grade teacher, and we read the original version of Treasure Island every year in the Spring of fifth grade. It is a tough book for my students, but they love it. Of all the movie versions of Treasure Island, this one is very close to the novel and, as opposed to other versions, doesn't compromise the nature of the characters or the plot. Because it stays true to Stevenson's great work, I try to show this movie every year to my class on the last day of school. It's so hard to find, though, I had to buy the VHS version on e-bay to make sure we had it. The acting is superb, the music and setting only help tell the story better, and the kids love reliving the adventure they read in the classroom. Good Movie
I have never read the book Treasure Island and just happened upon this movie. It is a great story of pirates, treasure, and even has some sword fights. Most of the movie was very straight forward with a couple slow parts. It was interesting to see a young Christian Bale (Newsies, Batman Begins) in this and he does a great job along with the rest of the cast. Best Version of TI bar none
This movie is truly a gem! You've got an all star cast, (not sure how they pulled that off for a TV movie), absolutely gorgeous scenery, perfect book-to-film translation, and some of the best drama/action equal or better than what you'll find in any big budget movie in the theater. This film is a true piece of movie-making art. Christian Bale shows off the brilliant acting that has made his career and Charlton Heston is the scariest and smartest Long John Silver you’ll ever see on screen not to mention Christopher Lee's (of Lord of the Rings) terrifying turn as Blind Pew. Ted Turner should be hung-up on a yardarm for not releasing this on DVD mateys!This movie is truly a gem! I wish it was a dvd
I've been trying to find this movie in what seems like forever. It is a early 90's remake of the movie Treasure Island staring charlton heston, oliver reed, christian bale, and christopher lee.The only place to find it has been on the internet and i think i found the best copy.though it is vhs, it is brand new,in wrapper,never played,and the price was perfect ! it cost me a little over $16 dollars & every where i've seen it, it has never been less than $30 dollars and sometimes thats a used copy.Though i do wish they'd release this movie on dvd someday, i am happy to finally own it.If you like the story of treasure island & the actors mentioned above like i do, then i recommend finding a copy yourself, but you wont find 1 better than mine.I've been trying to find this movie in what seems like forever.
