One of the plates is not truly flat, but as long as I use it on a true flat surface it works just fine and flattens out. I have not used these much, only touching up a plane blade or a chisel, but WOW what a difference it makes in how fast and sharp the blades get. I can't wait to sit down and rework all my tool, much faster and better then using sand paper. And these are cheap, so easy to replace when needed
