Originally produced as a television special for Showtime, this fantastic live special features the now-deceased rocker Roy Orbison with several equally legendary rock performers. Friends and colleagues including Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello, and Tom Waits joined Orbison at Los Angeles's Coconut Grove in order to collaborate with and pay tribute to this irreplaceable rock and roll talent. Songs performed include many of the classic songs of romance that made him famous--from "Oh, Pretty Woman" to the tragic ballad "Crying." Shot in black and white, this performance looks as beautiful as it sounds, featuring at any one time a killer all-star band onstage, clearly loving every minute of playing with Roy, who of course outshines them all.

    Stolen in the Mail, lost in the bureaucracy!

    Sorry you had to ask but this album, which I loved the broadcast on PBS, was lost or more likely stolen in the US mail service. So I really can not comment on this recording or its quality since it never even got to my mail box. I am reviewing in my frustration with eBay for constantly pestering me to make a review on an item that they know I never got. The left hand never knows what the right hand is doing at eBay and we as the consumers get totally lost in the mindless bureaucracy of a mega corporation. So now I'll just wait to see how long it takes these Dodo Birds to ask me again.

    Love this one.

    It is excellent. I am really a fan or Roy Orbison and play this DVD over and over. The picture and sound is great and by far probably his best performance ever. Having so many well known musicians and singers just put the "icing on the cake". Two of my favorites are Bruce Spingsteen and K.D. Lang. Following Roy's death there was a TV tribute to him with K.D. Lang singing "Crying" which is my favorite song by Roy along with so many others. I bought this DVD for these reasons and highly recommend it to Orbison fans. If you don't buy anything else, try this one.

    A Great Tribute to a Great Artist!

    I think I first saw "A Black in White Night" on cable about 20 years ago. This concert was filmed in black and white at the Cocoanut Grove nightclub in Los Angeles in one take. It was made the year before Orbinson's death. If you like Roy Orbinson's music, you will love this DVD. He performs his greatest songs with legends like Bruce Springsteen as backups.

    Excellent live recording with an All Star group of musicians!

    If your a fan of Roy O you will enjoy this video! He's older now, but still great voice, and with the cast with him makes for a great remake of a lot of his best songs!

    Royally Roy O at his finest, with friends to match

    Hearing the great songs of Roy Orbison done in a 'jamming' way with new twists from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Steven Soles k.d. lang, Jennifer Warnes, and Bonnie Rait. The former Elvis Presley back up band 'TCB' - What a banquet for the ears (and eyes with the DVD). I simply love owning a copy of the best concert I've ever heard - Thank you Big O, in the sky! We continue to love you!
