  • Easy on the eyes

Yes, easy on the eyes, because if it weren't for Dorothy Stratten, there wouldn't be much else to look at. This is one movie I added to my list of top "Star Wars" rip-offs, though it's not totally fair to call it a rip-off like many others as it's more of a parody or satire of sci-fi in general. There are some clear influences from Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, and possibly others that might be more subtle (they do have the theme from 2001- A Space Odyssey). If you're reading this, you either heard/read about how bad it is and wanted to see or already know how bad it is and that's why you love it. The plot is fairly loose in what it's trying to show the viewer, it doesn't truly pick up on the actual story until nearly a third of the way through and even then, it doesn't truly stay on ...

  • 'Truth is ugly. We possess art lest we perish of the truth.'

Life is not an exact science, science is not an exact path either. Theory is the start of a lot of its branches. Its best to allow parallel experience when making decisions about life and science. So I did that, I made a choice on what I think beauty is and how to study it when I have no solid roots to use as a guide. Leonardo Da Vinici is a good person to use as a way to look a the world and its possible beauty and how it works. The Mona Lisa is an example of that study and his results are what I am attempting to reproduce. Like when a science experiment is done by other science people to get a confirmation of the base theory. Dorothy Stratten is a good current definition of beauty. I am not as good at art as Da Vinci, but that's not the point. The point is that I can run my life's race ...

  • focused my feelings

If you're buying this, then you already know you're not buying a science fiction movie the caliber of Star Wars. You're buying a low budget cult classic, Dorothy Stratten's one and only movie before she was tragically murdered by her loser lunatic ex-husband. It has been remastered in its original widescreen format, so this is as good as it gets. However, what makes it stand out for me are the liner notes, lovingly crafted by the fellow who was instrumental in making this remastered reissue happen, Stephen Norquist, the creator of www.dorothystratten.com. He convincingly tells us why we care about this woman and this 30 year old movie. His essay is very moving as he explains why our fascination transcends the prurient, and pays homage to a beautiful person who always made her friends ...

  • Entertaining comic space fantasy. "Galaxina."

Exceptionally pleased with comic value of the movie, plus impressed by the innovative techniques used in making the film - the scenes shot in infra-red, for one thing - done in 1980. Voice-over special feature commentary was a plus as well in telling about how the movie was made. Movie was enjoyed enough to lead to the search for and purchase of a "Galaxina" poster. "Galaxina" wasn't a 'rip-off' of "Star Wars", it was/is an entertaining, well made comedy spoof of it, and can be enjoyed for what it was made to be.

  • Galaxina is an old favorite

I remember seeing this at the Theater in 1980 at the 11:30pm matinee and loved the campiness of the movie and catching all the in jokes they put in Like the Batmobile in front of the Human Restaurant on the planet of the Blue Star. Dorothy Stratten was great in her feature role as Galaxina and its too bad she was lost to us soon after the movie was completed. The DVD was produced and remastered perfect and is a pleasure to watch again.
