Reviews
"Cinchett hopes his collection of stories and photographs, highlighting churches from downtown to north Tampa, will help boost interest in fading houses of worship." Tampa Bay Times, "In his third history book titled, Historic Tampa Churches, Cinchett features 52 of Tampa's oldest churches spanning from the 1800s to the early 1900s. His work of art captivates readers with its engaging storylines that correspond to more than 230 vintage images." Osprey Observer

Synopsis
Like treasured family heirlooms, the historic churches and temples of Tampa are lovingly cared for by their devoted congregations. With more than 200 vintage images, Historic Tampa Churches shares stories of tragedy and triumph, from St. Peter Claver Church, whose congregation watched the first church burn to the ground 10 days after its dedication, to the Sisters of St. Joseph at St. Benedict School, who found themselves jailed for teaching students in the African American community. Many of these churches, like Ybor City's Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, West Tampa's St. Joseph Church, and downtown's Greater Bethel Baptist Church, are found at the center of Tampa's ethnically diverse communities. Passed down from generation to generation, these architectural gems serve as a reminder of the countless men and women who selflessly labored for the growth of their churches, leaving a lasting legacy of faith and good works., Like treasured family heirlooms, the historic churches and temples of Tampa are lovingly cared for by their devoted congregations. Author John V. Cinchett is a third-generation Tampa native and local history writer with an interest in the preservation of historical Tampa photographs. As a musician, Cinchett has served as an organist for several local churches over more than 30 years. The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today. Arcadia is proud to play a part in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all.

The book is amazing. I lived in Tampa, Florida and excited to see a church I served for 10 years as one of the highlighted churches. Lots of historical background...
