  • 1350 was a very good yera

This book is written telling of medieval life in Barcelona, simple but written on a grand scale. There are just enough details that keep you coming back to read the next life event the main character works through. The book reminds me of the Pillars’ of the Earth by Follett. I enjoyed the story and the numerous details of life, struggles, and history during this time. One life and so many lessons have been learned. The author is from Spain who is new to the US. I will try to get his next book. I wanted this book to read on the beach but have finished it before I left. I will have to get a few more books off EBay for my vacation.

  • He's no Ken Follett

I see the similarities, but he is no way comparable to the great story teller. So I was mislead into purchasing the book as I go through withdrawal from Follett. I will finish reading this book, but it's no way page-turner.

  • Life in 12th Century Spain: too horrible to see, to capivating to ignore.

This is a good, but lONG, read. It is not for the faint of heart. It presents a fairly true-to-life picture of life in 12th Century Spain. There is all the intrigue, violence, and malice of oppression of the lowly commoner by those of higher social station, wealth, royalty, and clergy. And then the conflict among those four elements of society. However, through all, there is one faint thread of love and struggle for freedom.

  • Great television series - better read

Having watched the television series, reading the book filled in many more details.
