Classic that can shine with modern update.
I first need to mention that I had this TOTALLY restored. The unit uses silver contact switches that get oxidized over time if not maintained and the caps obviously age and need replacement. This is a classic with single ended circuits, regulated voltages and premium parts including the elusive Alps Black Beauty pot. The biggest surprise is the quality of the EQ circuit and the line level circuit. In comparison to my TVC it lost a touch of air but wins out in naturalness and low frequency guts. The phono stage is good but not near of the caliber of the line stage and EQ unit. With a revamp of the aged components and cleaning of the switches it is one of those components that you can listen to forever and not feel wanting for more. If you like a warm tube like sound from a solid state pre amp then this may be for you Rich and detailed sound with plenty of filters and turnovers for getting the sound just right from your speakers and a quality phono input as well. Just know that units of this age 30 years plus often require a bit of service after the purchase sometimes the volume pots are scratchy indicating the need of contact cleaner which is not a major issue to have corrected. For the sound enjoyment these units are capable of it is well worth it. They sound best in my opinion with matching BA 2000 amplifier and CA 2000 tuner.
