Garmin dash cam - eye on the road
I began looking for a dash cam after a individual pulled out in a pickup right in front of us - damage to our vehicle was 6500 and it was just a 'fender bender'. After that experience I started looking for a dash cam, I read reviews, looked at how they mounted, could it be easily moved if necessary or did it require 'hard wiring.' I opted for the Garmin unit because I already own a Garmin Zumo GPS and a Garmin dog collar and I knew that they sold decent quality items. I received the unit in a small sized box, but it had everything that I needed. I read the manual, then went about setting the unit up (time, EST, brightness - all easily done), I didn't expect the unit to stop showing the visual picture after about a minute, but that is one of the options. Keeping the video displayed could be a distraction, but as long as the red dot is on, it is recording. I liked it so much, that besides the 2 I originally ordered, I went back and got 1 for our son. In today's world, you need to protect yourself from the other guy, whether they be 'texting' or running a red light, the 'unblinking eye' sees all.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

A silent workhorse
I've been using one of these for nearly a year, and it has performed flawlessly. I like that you can set the time for the screensaver to activate (I use 1 minute). It darkens the image so it doesn't distract. The inside mike is very sensitive. This would be good to record the verbal interaction between you and an officer (or some enraged driver) if you are so engaged. I haven't had any accidents (thankfully), but I have hit some potholes hard enough to trigger the save video feature. I was confused by the low beeping tone I heard - I thought it was my phone at first - then I realized the unit was telling me it had saved the last video segment thinking I had been in an accident; proof that the unit does what it is claimed to do. A couple times, due to rapid temperature change, the unit's suction cup failed. I wish it came with a rear view mirror mount, that would end the suction problem. Also, in some states, it is illegal to stick things on your window. Otherwise I can't complain. The unit does what it purports to do, is unobtrusive and reliable. BTW, the power cord is fairly long, so I was able to route it across to the passenger's side and then above the door and in behind the passenger's seat to finally plug into the outlet inside my center console. No wires in my view. That outlet only supplies power when my truck's (Nissan Frontier SE) ignition is on, so if I'd want it to keep recording while parked I'd have to switch to the front outlet, or rely on its internal battery supply.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Refurbished

Unobtrusive, compact, set and forget, it works.
Nice little unit. I like the fact that the video goes off after a few seconds, but a red light tells that it is recording. A good feeling that there will be a document about any accident (assuming it is not my fault!). Too, a dash cam may calm driving - you know you are on camera. I like it that it has buttons and not a touch screen. Buttons are easier to use when the unit is small.
