    Beautiful and Sharp

    I use this HD DA 20-40mm on my Pentax KP Silver and it looks like it is made for it. The zoom range is enough for me, the 20mm is wide enough to cover most of my needs while the 40mm is more for framing. If you want telephoto, buy a long lens. So far the images are super sharp from wide open so you can vary aperture to control DOF. I like it very much.

    Maybe the best alternative.

    I like the lens, the zoom range is acceptable. Pentax offers few choices, Nikon and Canon fewer. I wanted a "normal" range lens. the 16-50 is good but a bit big, heavy, expensive, and the motor seems delicate (especially considering the cost) The Sigma Art 18-35 seems wonderful....but it is not water proof and seems big for my use (like walking around in a market in Mexico trying to look like I have a point and shoot) , the 21mm limited and 35mm limited seem like a good alternative but cost more. So i tried this 20-40 and while not tack sharp has good color and good contrast. I have the 15 to go wide and small and the 100 macro to compliment the range.

    It can be used instead lenses with fixed focal range

    It' s one of the best zoom lens and can replace some number of fixed lens. Great image quality. It provides a sharp, contrasting and plastic pattern.
