It does seem to clear all of the odors - at this time unfortunately, smoke but it also seems to filter impurities from my three dogs and 4 large birds. I am so happy with it I just purchased another to into my living room. Condition was like new and it was a good value compared to Bose and Air Doctor (both of which I had and now have rehomed because the Shark alone does the trick and no more expensive filters to purchase.
