Alan Bates is THE best Michael Henchard. Excellent version of a classic Thomas Hardy story The acting was superb. Tragic story that teaches us a hard lesson, namely that we are not the ones who get to choose the consequences when we mess up. Henchard is someone whom you both admire and pity. That's why the author described the story as a "study of a man of character". I thoroughly enjoyed this mini series. I really have nothing negative to say about it.
