    A Really good deal!

    DC Clip on ammeters are not often found used - and the HP 428B is usually missing its required 428A probe. This was the complete system. This one has had many Birthdays and ... surprise! Worked right out of the well-packed box and its accuracy is close enough. 15.77 mA reads 16.0 mA. Really happy to have it for some obscure audio product's test and alignment.

    Unique simple way to measure current

    Measuring current in electronic circuits could not be simpler. Just like the clip-on ammeters used by high current electricians, all you do is clip the jaws around a wire, up to ~3.5 mm diamter, and get the DC current in ranges from 1 mA to 10 A FSD. And it is surprisingly accurate: on my test, within 1% FSD. The zero setting on the lowest range (1 mA FSD) does drift a bit (~0.05 mA) due to probe wear and the Earth's magnetic field. Despite mine being about 60 years old and having all original parts, it still works like new. It uses a number of industrial grade vacuum tubes, so if any fail, it might be difficult to find replacements. Suitable electrolytics would be impossible to find, as would the concentric coarse/fine pot.
