About this product

Product Information

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection , or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life . In his landmark study, Darwin theorized that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection. These ideas flew in the face of long-held beliefs, and the book immediately became one of the most controversial scientific works in history--and it still remains so today. Now, for the first time, Darwin's classic is fully and handsomely illustrated with more than 350 illustrations and photos, many of them in brilliant color. Reproductions from Darwin's The Voyage of the Beagle , his journal of the travels that led to his remarkable breakthrough, appear throughout, inviting readers to experience Darwin's journey and to understand how he developed his theory of evolution. In addition, brief excerpts from his letters, diaries, and correspondence bring both Darwin the man and his revolutionary discovery to life.   A Main Selection of Scientific America.

This was shipped in three days but had an obvious three inch rip in the cover. It was advertised as like new or mint condition. I don’t care as I just want to read it and pass it on,. Positive transaction on my part . Thank you,

  • This is a nice coffee table book.

This is a nice book with lots of photos and pictures. It makes an otherwise dry and difficult read much easier. I am not into evolutionism, but if you ever want a copy of "Preservation of the Favored Races in the Struggle for Life", get this one. At $20 or less, it is a nice book. It would be nice if they would publish Descent of Man in the same coffee table format.

  • Origin of Species: It's Dog-Difficult to Read, but I like pretty pictu

The pictures are the best part of this dud. Darwin's groundbreaking work is itself very difficult to read. It's the kind of book that we all like to own but don't have the determination to actually get through, just because the material is dull and the language is outdated. So, I haven't read it, I just TRIED to read it. So, I recommend you get a "pretty" version, because this is one publication that is just going to sit there on the shelf so you will "look" scholarly. Just remember, no matter what you learn about its myriad problems, never question evolution.

  • Darwin

This was a very good deal on this book. I received it in excellent condition and in a very timely manor. The painted pictures of the animals and the depictions of early man are beautiful. I would recommend this book to anyone studying Darwin or the just curious readers. It is no wonder this theory has stood the test of time, Darwin’s theory made so much sense. The book is very easy to read. This book would be an excellent required read for all those home school students in and around 9th grade. I can endorse this book! Good Reading!

  • Darwin

bought this as a gift for dad-he's 85 and I'll borrow it too. One of the best and most interesting books ever. You're either into comparing theories or not-if you are you'll enjoy Darwin-a man way ahead of his time. A book worth saving for the family library this edition in particular definitely a good coffee table book-wonderfully bound and put together impressive as a gift for someone wish I could be more helpful but what more can I say!! It's a must to anyone mulling over their decision
