I hated country music when I was a child. Ernest Tubb. Hank Williams. George Jones. Tammy Wynette. Day in; day out. My dad would whistle to it in the car. My mom would play it on the stereo and I would run into my room and play my Walt Disney 45s. My dad just turned 83 and I adore him. He is in a wheelchair now but his ears and his eyes are sharp. I bought these for his birthday present. This was more than a present of great performances during a time when our country was the Shining City on a Hill. This was a gift of "memory;" kids running through the house; filling the car up with ethyl; a grilled cheese and malted at Woolworth's. To see my dad start crying while watching a very young, pretty Dolly Parton sing "Coat of Many Colors" made me realize that I, too, loved this ... I hated country music when I was a child. A lot of fun!
I enjoyed the individual performances. I love seeing old favorites & some I'd not heard before but have heard of. I grew up hearing about these people so it's nice to see them preform as they were back then. This is a good set. I would recommend it to any Opry fan. It was worth the whole set to see Little Jimmy Dickens preform "May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose!" What a riot!

Ok if you are into the age of the best of country music then this DVD set should find it's way to your home. This collection has them all! Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Conway Twitty, George Jones along with way too many others to list. 8 disc set loaded with many hours of enjoyment! I bought this set for my mom, and every other Sunday I go to her home and we play cards, and in the background we play old country music shows like Hee Haw or the Porter Wagoner show, now we are in the middle of enjoying this DVD set. I would reccommend this set to anyone that likes the old music shows with all the old stars of country music!Ok if you are into the age of the best of country music then this DVD set should find it's way to your home. Great Walk Through to Classic Country
I am not all that old...but I remember hearing these songs played in my house by my father. To me THIS IS WHAT COUNTRY MUSIC WAS ALL ABOUT. It's a shame that today's so called "country" is NOT AT ALL COUNTRY. I hate that we have lost the music that these great singers loved and sang.
