Most Excellent Film
Mostly filmed on location on the Nile in Egypt in the 1970s. Close-ups were filmed on a sound stage in the UK. Absolutely fantastic cast. Original book was inspired when Agatha Christie followed archaeologist husband to Egypt in the 1920s or 1930s. Her husband was later knighted for his contributions to archaeology while Agatha Christie was soon made a Dame for her contributions to mystery writing--the only English couple to be knighted for individual achievement I believe. Love this movie!
When you see a movie at least enuf times to know practically all the dialogue, the score (the delightful Cole Porter score!!!) and then get bummed out when it's over, well.... you kinda need to own the movie! Granted, this adaptation isn't totally what Dame Agatha wrote--none of the book-to-movie exercises are that I've seen--but, it's so much fun! I love Peter Ustinov as Poirot, and all the bitchy, snarky dialogue delivered by these classically trained actors is just a riot! Maggie Smith and Roddy McDowall just KILL me in this movie! In some ways, it's almost like the murder is just an excuse to get these folks in close quarters to see who can come up with the most creative way to knock off their common enemy! To find the DVD at a nice price is purely an added ... Super Entertaining!
This was one of my favorite movies growing up and watching it with my adult eyes I have to say that it doesn't disappoint! Peter Ustinov may be no David Suchet, but he's pitch perfect for this movie's tone. Directed by Guy Hamilton (Goldfinger), this is highly entertaining!

I have loved this movie ever since I first watched in the 80's. I believe the casting was done impeccably. I love all the 'old' actors as well as the new. This is the movie that got me hooked on the rest of Agatha Christie's other movies. The scenes are just 'gorgeous' as well as the local where it was filmed. I watch the collection over and over. Love it!

This is one of my favorite movies. It is a timeless film that is better with Peter Ustinov than other versions. He interjects his humorous looks and attitude. It is also well played, a good mystery and the other big name players really add to it's charm. The costumes and period cloths are beautiful and make you wish that look was back in style. The only down side to this movie is that a few of the actors speak to fast in a very British accent. The only way to fix that is to watch it again!This is one of my favorite movies.
