I've worn out two of these printers mainly using it for printing CD/DVD/BluRay disks. 1000s and 1000s. Failure this past time was print head clogged and nothing would unclog. A problem with these printers is it looses it's ability to feed paper - Disk printing still works tho :) Print head cleaning is "all" so even if one is clogged all loose ink. Firmware also insists of a head cleaning before high quality printing - tho there are tricks to avoid it sometimes. 3rd party ink and refillable cartridges are (were) possible making cost per print cents on the dollar.

I owned a R280 before this and the print quality was excellent. This one printed 2 pages and 1 cd label before the black and light cyan colors ran out of ink. I replaced the cartridges and now the print quality is terrible, all the other cartridges showed 1/2 full when the black and light cyan ran out of ink. I don't know if the printer was a refurbished, but it's certainly not something I'm proud to print anything in color with.

I like the price of this printer and the functions it has for the price compared to some other brands. It has some faults like the print head starts getting clogged after a bout a year of normal use and even sooner if it is left on and not used for several days. I know how to service it and get it working again since I have 2 of these printers and have had 2 of the previous model. I did start saving money by using a continuous ink tank system which costs me about 30 to 50 dollars a year to fill with ink where the factory ink cartridges cost around 65 dollars more or less depending where they are purchased. Also Epson has built in firmware in this printer that causes an error message to pop up after the printer cycles X number of times and says that a component in the printer has reached it's life expectancy and then the printer will not print. They do have a downloadable small program on the Epson Support web site that resets this and allows it to continue to work but, you should read the notice on the website before downloading, installing, and running this program. I have run this on 3 printers now without problems. Bruce S. Waltonville, ILRead full review
Originally, I bought this printer as a used unit to be used solely for printing imprintable dvd's. So far, that's a work in progress. I have done some cardstock printing and that turned out nice. This printer's lifesblood is six color cartridges that run about $15 each from Epson; on the generic market a R260 compatible cartridge set goes for $20 for all six including shipping. The software that came with the R260 was for earlier Windows versions, not my Vista; but Epson does provide a downloadable version and that's how I got the R260 to do cardstock printing. However, CD/DVD printing requires separate software that is not downloadable. Therefore, I had to order a Windows Vista software disk from Epson for $10 to get the CDPrint software that was a part of it. As of now, it's still in the envelope. When I get back to it, I assume I'll have to uninstall the downloaded version and then load the Vista disk that will include the necessary CDPrint software. Then I'll be capable of both paper printing and disk imprinting. It's been somewhat of a hassle so far, but I have to say that Epson's support website and their live support have been quite helpful. I certainly don't regret buying the Epson; I just need to stick with jumping thru the technical hoops until it's fully workable.Read full review
This item replaced a model R280 which had served me for many years and while being a slightly previous model, this one had all the features of the 280. In fact, the conversion from sheet print to disc print was much easier in that one doesn't have to physically remove and reposition the tray- just flip a lever. Makes one wonder why Epson would change such a feature. Also, being a used printer, the price was right. Jack7553
