Epic, supurb example of Yngvie at his Best. Solos are devastating and clean
After hearing and buying the first three CD's, all of which are excellent, this one I had to try as an example of what the 6 years since trilogy had done for his style. All that money, etc. I was amazed that he was even better. I'd thought 'rising Force' was hard to beat, and will always be a favorite, just since 'Black Star' seemed to soar off in a direction no one had gone before. His unique almost gothic but not quite gothic use of classical style and melody, while staying true to the roots of metal music and culture, is unparallelled, his technique flawless, but whereas each cd seems in many ways better than the last, each new work seems to go to new places, in a way uniquely different from the old ones. One example in this cd... many years ... One example in this cd... many years after the struggle of a newly 'famous' talent... is in the solo section of 'Cry No More,' not the best or only example of his epic fusion of classical and metal, but at 2:29 in the song, the song goes to what sounds like a pure Bach Organ fugue chorus which fits superbly into the slow emotional metal frame of the song. the Bach sounding melodies lead into a pure, blistering Yngvie lead at 2:50 which doesn't cheapen or lessen the impact of the Bach sound, but rather shows respect for it, and somehow fits right in. I KNOW Bach would love to hear this. Yngvie is so good it's hard to find anyone in this generation to compare him to... he fits up there with Wolfgang, Johann, and Nicolo. This CD is a superb, and essential addition to any collection of works by truly great musicians, in my opinion. One example of his professionalism is that whereas, like many rock musicians, he was pressured by contracts, etc. to make an album every year, and did so... after the first 3, he took two years for each for the next 3, allowing him to be uncompromising on his sound and the quality of his work. Every song on this cd is excellent. I highly recommend it. The title track is my new favorite Yngvie song, for example. Yet, the final track is unforgettable also, beginning with a windstorm into a neat, flowing classical guitar introduction. He plays music to all the ages. In all the continents. He plays melodies of Europe as comfortably as Mexico, as comfortable as the Middle East.
