Stones sound like a bunch of Blues Singing Cowboys !
I've owned many copies of 'Through The Past Darkly' over the years, both on LP and CD. At the risk of sounding a bit strange, I have a love/hate relationship with this album. What I hate: 1. 'Let's Spend The Night Together'. I hate everything about this song: The smarmy manipulativeness of the character in the lyrics, the namby-pamby music and arrangement, even the production. 2. The lyrics to 'Have You Seen Your Mother...". The music is alright. 3. I'm not wild about '2000 Light Years...' or 'Dandelion' 4. I like but quickly get tired of 'She's A Rainbow' What I love: 1. The album title. 2. The cover, both sides.Most of the early Stones LPs had good covers with classy photographs, but ... Beautiful guitarwork from Keith and Mick Taylor, love the cowbell and drumming. Brilliant. If you like the Rolling Stones, buy 'High Tide & Green Grass', 'Through The Past Darkly', and 'Made In The Shade'. (No, 'Forty Licks' does NOT take the place of those records) Hot Rocks and Hot Rocks Vol. 2 make a nice combination, too. If you love early/mid period Stones, just buy all of their albums up through 'Black & Blue'. You may still want the "hits" compilations, though- just for the fun of it.
