Good scanner
The HP Scanjet 5590 is a good duplex scanner, which you cannot get on an all-in-one printer/scanner without upgrading to a large commercial system. I am used to the Epson DS-510, so my review is biased by that scanner. The HP scans with good resolution, good color, and has the convenience of duplex scanning which is super -- set it and forget it without having to flip pages. It does take up quite a bit of my desk space as it is about the same size as a printer due to the option of the flatbed scanner. The scan speed at 600 dpi is fairly slow and it takes several minutes to scan a 5-page dual sided document. HP offers drivers for the Windows 10 OS, but the standard software would not work for me. Fortunately I found an HP forum which suggested using HP Scan and Capture software which ... Scan, copy, feeder: Dependable. Works with Win 7
Bought this when I had to give up previous HP flatbed due to changing to Win 7. My experience with the other one was positive. Found this unit used at a fantastic price. Really didn't expect much, but turned to be out as good as the one I had to give up. The unit is not terribly fast, but having the feeder on top helps as you can stack some stuff on and walk away for a while. Occasionally "misfires" but usually performs well. Like the copy, file, and etc. buttons on the front. Do like the side opening as opposed to end opening. Although the Scanjet 5590 is not a "top of the line" unit, for the cost it is a very viable option for anyone, including business. The scanner is high resolution with 2400x2400ppi and the quality of the scans is very good. It is very difficult to find a "duplexing" scanner for such a low cost. The scanner document feeder will jam, but that can be minimized by simply making sure the media you are scanning is intact. Also, after several scans you do learn the "in's and out's" of the scanner and how to use it most effectively. Again, for the money I say "A BEST BUY" as it does have full drivers available for the new Windows 7 and works with Mac thru current models. Later drivers may need to be downloaded from HP, but they are avialable. I did have a little difficulty installing, but after ... I did have a little difficulty installing, but after "cleaning up" my PC and ridding it of some old driver software I was no longer using, it installed fine. I have heard that those who have an "all in one" installed may need to delete it, install the scanner and then reinstall the all in one as the drivers can either create install error's, or cause the scanner to perform slowly. I beleive this is due to registry conflicts as the operation occur's.

I had purchased the large Ricoh scanner due to excellent performance of my previous Ricoh Aficio. However, my new computer did not have slot for SSCI board and I was forced to buy a smaller one and got the HP ScanJet 5590 which has performed exceptionally well. Am pleased with its compactness, reasonable price, and performance--a feature of all the HP products I have purchased.
