Perhaps this is because it is new, but the strainer basket falls out easily, so when you tap it upside down to get the puck out, the strainer basket likes to fall out with it. The portafilter functions perfectly. It feels a bit light, and as a consequence it feels like it is lacking in strength. It would feel better if it simply had more weight in the handle or the handle was filled with something so it didn't feel hollow. But, if it works well and lasts, those are the most important things for me. I've gone through two "OEM" portafilters which felt more substantial but both broke within a couple years.

I was hoping that this would work like the one that originally came with my Starbucks Barista espresso machine. It is much lighter than the original one, so I assume the original was made from steel whereas this one may be made from aluminum. The main problem I have had with it is that when I have finished brewing a cup of espresso, and it has cooled, when I try to remove it from the espresso machine, the filter cup stays in place and the rest of it comes off. So then I have to wrestle the cup free from the espresso machine, which makes a bit of a mess. I am not happy with this one and will be looking for one that is closer to the original design.

I'm always suspicious of aftermarket products, but had no choice. This works fine. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because it is lightweight and feels flimsy. But it looks good and works fine.

the portafilter is easy to clean, quick to fill level and tamp, and provides control over brewing pressure. Bottomless portafilters and spouted open filters do not control the pressure. Since my Saeco machine does not allow for adjustment to pressure and temperature, the only variable I have is the pressure control in the portafilter. Thus the portafilter holds the release of the brew from the coffee puck until the pump has achieved that pressure. The process produces a much more consistent flow of coffee, more contact with the coffee puck and thus more flavor in the end.

I am not sure if this is even a good replacement for the original parts. It’s extremely light in material weight compared to the original. It is not an OEM part I don’t believe. And coffee seems to go through it faster than it should to get a proper brew.
