This Sony PSP 3000 is a redesign of the original launch version of the Sony PSP. Released in 2008, it features a built-in microphone, a thinner, more elegant design, and a beautiful form factor. Brings back memories, playing the PSP with my son's. I've always liked the compact design and excellent graphics. I know the world has moved on from the PSP but it's a nice gaming experience.

The PSP 3000, awesome portable gaming and media consumption on a budget!
The Sony PSP is an awesome system especially considering how dated the system is now. It has a big library of games and a lot of them have really good graphics for a portable. This sounds good all ready but when this system really shines is when you look at the prices you can get one for these days. If someone wants to get a PS Vita but does not have the money at the time, the PSP 3000 is a good system to hold you over until you can afford one. It is a pretty feature rich device for the price too, so you are not just limited to playing games on it. It also is an MP3 player so you can listen to music. If you want to watch videos it can also do that. It can display images if you want to look at pictures you have taken or you can save them from the internet. The PSP 3000 also has built in ... The internet browser is admittedly limited and clunky to use and larger websites don't fully load because of the small amount of RAM I think. But it can be used for simple web surfing or if nothing else then saving images for wallpapers. The PSP 3000 also has a built in microphone so you can Skype on it which is pretty cool on a device like this. There is a camera attachment that you can plug into the top of the device so you can actually have a camera on this device. I play Japanese games on mine that I imported from Japan and they play flawlessly on here to non region locking. The PSP 3000's battery is pretty good I can get enough time out of it for average use. The PSP uses Memory Stick Duos to store data which work fine and are easy enough to find and there are adapters that can convert micro sd's to memory stick duo so you can use that. The PSP does use optical media so it can have the standard issues optical media has such as scratching, dust, and the mechanical parts can break from drops so you just have to be careful with it. Other than that it seems to be durable enough for everyday use. All in all given the features, usability, durability, and price I would say that this is a great deal if you can find one for cheap. I give the PSP 3000 two big thumbs up!

From the beginning - the interface...it uses an interface that is basically the same as the PS3 (and, from what I've seen, all Sony Blu-Ray players). It's simple to navigate, allows for extensive customization, and looks really sharp. It also has an internet browser which, once you get used to "typing" with one cursor, isn't half bad. It loads some pages outright, and other their mobile version. The difference, though - the screen is a lot bigger than my Blackberry, and a lot brighter. Hurrah! Additionally, once you're done with your internet, it shuts the wireless off, saving some of that precious battery ... I'll admit, I'm probably voicing my opinion a bit too soon. I haven't really had the opportunity to check out the remote play function with the PS3, but look forward to that (and hooking up, via composite, the PSP to my television). But, all of this is just fluff. To the point - the games. It handles relatively well. It's not the most comfortable portable gaming system I've ever used, and the position of the left toggle doesn't really help. Playing while it's plugged in to the wall is also not simple. Once I found a comfortable position, however, it was relatively smooth sailing. I do like the comfort of the DS a bit more. Also, it's loud. Annoyingly loud. "click, spin, click, spin". The problem with the media, I suppose. I can live with it, but I don't have to like it. The media also leads to some load times that, while not unbearable, can be a bit annoying from time to time. Those complaints aside, once the handling is figured out, it provides for a great experience. The graphics on the games can be really top notch, and the color and clarity of the screen is wonderful (and density allows for larger, more defined characters). I got mine with a protective case, which I would definitely recommend. Nintendo had it right on when they made the GBA and DS foldable. Even the PSP Go fails here, and it just seems too...fragile. So, overall, a good piece of equipment. The game selection includes plenty of games that are not, and would not be able to be, supported by the DS. Factor in the internet connectivity, complete with browser (I don't know if the DSi has a browser), and I would say that the PSP is on par with the DS. They are two different machines, however, with different purposes and games. The new prices on the 3000 make it more affordable, and more or less worth it. Haven't downloaded and watched a movie yet, but I would venture a guess that the screen will provide a large enough, and clear enough, viewing area to enjoy, something the DS definitely lacks. Good purchase, and I'm glad I made it!
