About this product

Product Information

One of the computer industry's best-selling games at over five million copies sold, 1993's influential Myst receives a modern update with this "Masterpiece Edition." The first-person graphic adventure, largely credited with ushering in CD-ROM technology, features the same cryptic puzzles, eerie locales, and minimalist interface found in the original computer classic. New features include visuals rendered in 24-bit color, revamped sound effects, remastered music, and a custom "DigitalGuide" help system. Those new to the Myst series can receive three levels of hints at any point during the game. The first hint type is a general clue, the second offers more specific advice about what needs to be accomplished in order to advance, and the third details the solution.

  • Installing in Windows XP, Problem Solutions

Historically this is a great game, one of the first, best video games for PC's. Loved it years ago, and now my daughter will get to wander through the wonder of it. It's not easy to install outside of windows 98 however. I tried it on a new motherboard (Gigabyte MA785G-UD3H) that NEVER had win98se driver files available, using XP Pro SP3 and no matter how much I changed the Compatibility Mode to make it emulate play under win95 or win98, it wouldn't work. I'd get the sound and could see the window frame, but blank screen, no video, sometimes it was worse. I tried it with the latest Quicktime and Direct X, then uninstalled those and tried it under the original QT4 and DX6 which comes on the disc. I tried the various patches suggested around the internet sites. No go. I got closer trying on ...

  • Myst: Masterpiece Edition

So far the game doesn't like to work with 2 of my computers since they are less than 2 years old. However, my laptop which is 5 years old, it works well. So far the game has basic controls but is very interesting. I bought it because I played it when I was younger and wanted to finish it.

  • Best Computer Game

MYST is one of the first and best selling computer games of all time. It was first made to run on the Mac OS. After some time it was made to run on the Windows OS. Mac/PC it is still a great game. There are no time limits, no-one is trying to kill you. and there a really no directions, so the player has to try different things until the right one works. When I first played MYST on my old Macintosh Computer around 1995. I got so into the game that I would think about what I was going to try when I got home from work. It took me about four months to finish the game the right way (there are more than one ending to the game). I remembor feeling like I had nothing to do after work. It had become such a large part of my life for the four months. I hope you enjoy the game; for me it was a lot of ...

  • Do You Have What It Takes?

Myst overall is an enjoyable game. It does make you quite frustrated every so often but it one of the only pc games out there that makes you use a lot of thinking, stratagies, and even common sense to beat. The game does get pretty hard and is sometimes hard to understand but why not play a game that exercises your brain? It has its difficult spots but if you are willing to take the challenge then I suggest you try and see how far you can get into the game, maybe even beat it. Enjoy.

  • A classic on new VISTA

I had always liked Myst, but that was years ago. Coming across the game for the latest VISTA OS was a nice surprise. I got it and enjoy reliving the adventure, especially having forgotten many of the tricks, so it is almost new again. The only negative is that most modern games are rapid and lifelike, so if you are not used to the slower paced games from over a decade ago, Myst may not be for you. If you like a puzzle, you may really like this classic.
