Old reliable......My C42UX is approaching 6 yrs old.
My Epson was free w/ the purchase of my laptop 6 yrs ago. I didn't use it at first. I bought a $300 all in one and used it for 14 months before it went kuput! I pulled my Epson out of the closet a year later (unboxed & dusty) & it worked as if it was brand new! Yes, color printing is very slow! I set the big, time consuming jobs before I go to bed & they're waiting for me in the morning! Yes, sometimes I have to stop & clean the print heads or reload the paper because it has an error. Print quality is average. However, this printer has been very reliable. A six year old print is a dinosaur in this day & age. I bought 10 cartridges for here on eBay for $11.99. I have a bigger, better printer but I find I prefer the easy to load, space saving C42UX. I'm considering purchasing another one to ... My Epson was free w/ the purchase of my laptop 6 yrs ago. Great printer for Mac OS9
I have a couple of these printers already, and since it is hard or impossible to find new printers compatible with Mac OS9 it doesn't hurt to have one more. Seperate color and black inkjet cartridges so if you do a lot of B/W printing you don't need to buy the higher priced cartridge all that often. The only negative are that envelopes don't feed through all that well--they must be fed one at a time. Also, and this is a biggee--there is an internal digital counter which at some point (after about three years of regular use, IIRC) will lock up. The red and green lights will flash alertnately and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it unless you have special Epson software to make the reset. If you have access to that software you can be up and running again. Otherwise, it is ... excellent printer for the cost
I had one of these printers and it got to the end of its print life. I had ordered extra generic cartridges for it from everydaysource and didn't want them to go to waste. I surfed eBay for what seemed to be months, hoping that someone would offer one. I finally found one and bought it right away. What I like about this printer is the ease of printing, although getting to the part where you can change the ink cartridge takes some remembering of the steps. I also like, or should say love, the fact that I can buy generic cartridges for it at a fraction of what the brand name ones cost. It's a Great Printer!
This is either the 3rd or 4th of these printers that I've bought over the years. Yeah, they wear out but you can't beat them for the price and the generic ink is practically given away here on eBay. I use mine constantly! (I also have a Dell All-in-One but hardly use it other than scanning and copying because of ink cost.) I print photos, greating cards, and old images I find online for my genealogy research and am happy with all results.
