Compared with my 10 year old digital camera, also an Olympus, this camera provides a lot of function for the price. It has good macro capability, which is why I decided on this model so that I could take pictures of items to sell on eBay. I am still trying to get used to the viewing screen. I would be most comfortable with a viewing window, being a long time analog camera user. Unfortunately, the software won't load on my PC's OS (win2K) but I can still offload images.
Picture quality is what is to be expected from a $60 - $120 camera. The number of options and features are refreshing. Anti-shake counter measure seems to function correctly. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. For someone that wants an inexpensive, dependable, and easy to use, point n shoot camera, I think this would be a great option
WHILE THIS CAMERA HAS GREAT FEATURES AND IS EASY TO USE--IT'S ONLY DRAW BACK IS PIXELS CAN BE LOST ON THE VIEWING SCREEN CREATING SMALL MEDIUM AND LARGE BLACK SPOTS AS WELL AS LINES WHICH WILL MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO VIEW THE PHOTOS YOU TAKE OR ARE TAKING--IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE FINAL IMAGE OF THE PHOTOS WHICH ARE TYPICALLY GREAT--IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW CAREFUL YOU ARE WITH THIS CAMERA--IF PIXELS DECIDE TO BLACKEN YOUR SCREEN THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT IT--THERE IS THE OPTION OF HAVING IT FIXED OR USING IT AS A THROWAWAY AND BUY ANOTHER ONE.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
Camera does have a lot of great features, and I did set it up to maximum quality, but forget about zooming in very much on any of your images. Very, very noisy when zooming in, even though the camera is set to 14MP and Fine. Pictures look good though, when not zoomed. Software does not run on XP Home w/SP3. Get error trying to run. Downloaded latest version and tried to install that, but it came up stating that my operating system was not supported, then asked if I wanted to install something else. Chose Yes, then nothing happens. Not a big deal though. You can still access the camera as a Virtual Drive by going through My Computer and getting the images that way.
I love this camera. For the last 6 years I've been useing a great 5 MP camera with a 10X zoom. I loved my old camera and didn't plan to get rid of it. Then one day I read about this camera. -- True, it only has 5x zoom, half of what I had before but this camera has almost 3 times the mega pixels. Thats what drew me in, It was the fact that it has image stablizer that hooked me. It has has plenty of extras. Fun extras like Fish Eye Effect and Sketch Effect. -- Other high megapixel cameras I concidered had plenty of great features but was lacking the ability to change the megapixel settings. 14 Megapixels take up a lot of space on the memory card. If you only want to take a picture to view on screen, you wouldn't really need to use all 14 MPs. 5 is even overkill for that. -- There are something I don't like it's not major. My old camera had a setting to take the perfect 4x6 picture. While this did drop the MPs from 5 to 4.6, I can state my rep as a Photo Specialist that more people want 4x6 prints than any other size. Without this setting, so of the picture is cut off when its printed. -- Over all it's a great camera. But would would you expect from the Olympus brand. They don't make inferiour products.Read full review
