A most flexible walkabout lens, well made and very functional.
This lens was a revelation in the 1890s when Tamron released it. The extreme zoom range of 28-200 (for that decade), meant you had a walkabout lens that would cover most situations. Its modest max aperture of 5.6 was usable and a stop or 2 down would sharpen the image enough for most purposes. Using Kodak's grainy film400 ISO in that decade was far more limiting than any shortcomings of the lens. I used it on a Pentax MZ5 film camera. It had been rebranded under an agreement between Pentax and Tamron. The version I bought recently on eBay is the original Tamron branding, and was bought for sentimental reasons as I have kept 5 Pentax film cameras and like to run a roll of film every so often. Like many other Pentax users, I bit the bullet and switched from Pentax 5 years ago, bought into ... This lens was a revelation in the 1890s when Tamron released it.
