This coin was purchased as a gift for someone who appreciates history, and this coin has a most interesting background. It was struck at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia in 1944 to pay oil workers in Saudi Arabia. It was shipped to Saudi Arabia aboard the Liberty Ship S.S. John Barry but was lost when the ship was sunk by a German U-boat. This coin is one of many which were recovered from the wreck in the 1990ās.
