    Great Film Camera After Servicing

    1. This is a great film camera. Image quality hard to surpass at any price. Fixed lens, slightly wider than most. Aperture preferred auto exposure. Very good rangefinder, sure a Leica's is better, but this one is good. A terrific combination for shooting film. Yashica Electro GT, GX, GSN, GTN, all of them. 2. To be reliable today, these must have been serviced (maybe there are outliers, but not many). These are easy do work on, some DIY, and there are many who will CLA the camera for under $100. In particular the "POD" must be replaced. Google for more info. 3. So, don't expect a $20 wonder. Instead, buy one in good shape, have it serviced, and enjoy a terrific $100 film camera.

    Outside great. Inside not great

Camera is in great shape and is a great bargain. However even when I bought the new battery, the check battery light shines bright but everything else doesn't work. Unfourtunatly the Electro 35 doesn't really operate without its electronics. It will stay at a fixed 1/500 shutter speed without a battery I believe. Pretty disappointed but hopefully since I saved a couple bucks on it, if I can get a cheap repair (Lord willing) I may break even. Fingers crossed.

  • Nostaglia inspiring, but still a good conventional 35mm camera.

I received my first Electro 35 following my graduation from high school. I then traveled throughout the US on a road trip that lasted seven months. In that time, many of the memories I have were dutifly recorded by this camera. It did a fine job shooting primarily Kodachrome 25 slide film in all weathers and settings. Later, I shot a fair amount of Tri-X while working in the theater with its low light levels. As a rangefinder camera, it is handy and fast to adjust, both to focus and set exposure. I recently ordered another from Japan and have sent it out for cleaning and light maintenance. I expect I'll continue to use it until it becomes an item for estate sale. And yes, I still have my original, 45 year old Electro 35. It still works and will soon get the same refurbishment. It may not ...

  • This is a good camera

The lens is sharp at larger apertures, and it's great that it can do f1.7. The metering is excellent. The rangerfinder viewfinder is generally not that great. Most of these that you find on eBay, you will have to do or have done the Pad of Death fix if you want it to work perfectly. But it is not that hard to do it yourself, even if you are not an experienced camera fixer. It is about 2 hours' work or so for the inexperienced. But the information you need is all online. It's a lot of fun to shoot with, although people who claim this is somehow the ideal street photography camera are, in my opinion, overdoing it a bit. But it's fun and cheap, so what's not to like?

  • Nice classic rangefinder camera

A modern camera in its time, I like that it has a 1.7 lens. I also have one with a 2.8. I had three 1.7s and was able to take the body with the best electronics and install the best looking of the three lenses. It is not an interchangeable lens but with a lelns wrench and a lot of care the front element can be changed. Be cautioned that its native battery is no longer made, but you can get an adaptor that takes a AA for about $10.00 on eBay. I use one adaptor and switch off between the 1.7 and the 2.8. Full disclosure: I seldom shoot film, but I like classic equipment.
