Awesome tone for any style
Although the 808 doesn't get as snarly as a TS-9, it has plenty of drive. I use it as a mid-level overdrive for rhythm playing, with a little less than half drive for a great classic rock tone to contrast with my more metal-oriented tone from another pedal. The great thing about this pedal is the addition of the boost, and the ability to change the order of effects. With the boost before the overdrive, it adds thickness and creamy overtones. But putting it after gets my rhythm up to lead volume with the same tone. Yes, it is less driven than a TS-9, but that's what I have a TS-9 for! The drive section also pairs quite well with my other rhythm overdrive, making it very saturated but controllable. Though I have the boost set specifically to increase the drive's volume, it also can ... Although the 808 doesn't get as snarly as a TS-9, it has plenty of drive. I bought this pedal untried, solely on the tube screamer reputation, and it fits precisely in my tonal palette, just as imagined.

All the creamy midrange ooze of the original. Useful improvements not originally conceived. Off the bat, all the TS tone you are looking for. Adds a very clean boost that can be routed boost into TS or TS into boost. I like the TS into boost for volume boost. Adds bypass switching - nice. Adds ability to run on 18v. Have not tried it. TS808DX is a smooth and Creamy OD for Clean and Ultra high gain.
I bought this to try out amongst other overdrives from other brands to try and boost my EVH 5150iii and my PRS MT-15. This does a phenomenal job especially when stacked with a thicker overdrive like the TC electronic MojoMojo/Paul Gilbert Mojo. Also love it boosted with the both versions of the TC Electronic Spark pedal. After trying many, many types of overdrives, this is the best overdrive for smooth, crunchy gain. The only other one that comes close to this is the Biyang Mad Driver. Overall this is a great pedal by itself, especially with the 18v internal switch and individual selectable boost(can be used without the TS section). It's everything I hoped it would be and amazing stacked with other types of overdrive and boost pedals. They really compliment each other when stacked. Get ... Smoothest sounding overdrive I've ever played on but doesn't lack the aggressiveness. Boost is so transparent and the post and add tons of gain on the pre. Got an awesome deal here too, plus really fast shipping. I used MXR GT-OD for a while and this 808 just blows it away. Not the mid spike I used to with the MXR. Pinch harmonics have improved a great deal and overall distortion is more pleasant. I use it mainly as a boost on the dirty channel of my Ampeg Gvt but it sounds very nice on the clean as well without any adjustments.
