So the deal is, when you buy Crosswords DS, you're agreeing that you're buying a game basically with crosswords, and that's exactly what you get, plus more! With your cartridge in hands, you plug it into your DS, turn it on, hold the game like a book, create your profile, set your orientation (if you're right or left-handed) and you're set! You can go into a training session or go right for the game, which isn't a bad idea, because the controls are pretty simple, it's fully operational by the touch screen, and you'll master it in no time. There are three types of games here, crosswords, wordsearch and anagrams. Each one is timed to see how fast you can solve them. For the crosswords you'll face four difficulty levels, and hundreds of different puzzles, you type the letter in the screen, the game recognizes it, if it's right it will appear in black, if not, it will appear in red, if it's wrong you'll have the chance to correct it, if it's right, then no, after all it's right anyway, but you can disable the correcting system in the further difficulties; if you encounter problems for solving a riddle you can call for a hint, each game you play gives you a certain amount of points, which you can exchange for hints, the number of points will differ based upon the game, harder games have you more points available; you have three types of hints, the ones that gives you an alternative tip, requires the least number of points, only one, and costs you the least amount of time, only a minute, the ones that will show you the letter you asked, which requires 3 points and costs you 3 minutes, and the ones that will tell you the whole word, requires 5 points and will cost you massive 5 minutes! There's the wordsearch, which you'll have to find words among lots of letters scattered around the screen, each one based in some theme, like words related to astronomy, weather, animals, cities, sports, colors and many more, there's 3 difficulty levels, and the words can be found horizontally, vertically, diagonally, backwards, anything goes! The last game is anagrams, and here you have to search for words using the letters given to you, various words can be found with several number of letters used. It's a good game after all, nothing important except the game itself, like, basic graphics, basically no music, except for the menu, but if you're a fan of these kinds of games you can't go wrong, after all even the basic graphics are better than paper, or maybe if you're seeking for a good way to just pass some time and have some fun, this is it.Read full review
I love this game! However, I think it should be named Anagrams instead of Crosswords. The crossword puzzles start out very, very simple. You have to work through all the very easy, easy, and medium puzzles to get to the challenging games. Fortunately, I found the anagrams puzzles on the game disc. These puzzles are great and very addictive. Once I start I find myself playing for hours before making myself put the DS down. I rated the game Good and not Excellent because I bought it for the crossword puzzles. I find myself playing the anagrams or word search puzzles most of the time. I bought this on eBay for a price much less than retail. Another advantage is that the previous owner already unlocked some of the game levels. I would recommend this game.
Great for Grade 1 to pre-teen Children. My daughter loves this game - not typical for a "Educational" game. There are Crosswords from easy to hard levels - I must confess to not trying out the game myself, so I cannot comment on the harder crosswords yet. She also loves the word finds. I think there are also anagrams in the game, but she has not tried them yet. Will update as we have the game longer! There are hints and you can guess letters, which makes this game great for kids, but I can see that it may be too easy for adults to Cheat.
I've been playing "CrossworDS" for a couple of weeks now and I do enjoy it. It's a game that is good for younger kids as well as adults. I am not very good at crossword puzzles but I like them....when I can *do* them. I was a little hesitant about buying this game thinking that I wouldn't be able to solve any of them. But the good thing about this game is that (if you go in order) it starts out easy and gets harder as you go along so you're expanding your brain power (for lack of a better term) as you move along in the puzzles. The word searches and anagrams are great too.
I bought the item because I enjoy puzzles and this game did not disappoint! It includes crosswords, word searches and anagram puzzles. I like that it has a variety of activities to choose from. There are three levels of puzzles (easy, medium, and more difficult selections. This is nice for the varying levels of ability so many people can play the game. The crossword games have a hint button if you get stuck, which is nice. Before I bought the game I wondered if the puzzles would be too hard, but with the different levels and the help buttons it really makes the game enjoyable. We love it and are really glad we made the purchase!
