Best solution to the problem all around
'06 Volvo V70 2wd turbo passenger's side mirror including backing plate, locating tabs, and heating element. An exact replacement down to the mold marks. Mounted perfectly. Reasonable shipping time--neither super fast or USPS slow (I think it came DHL in like 4 or 5 days). Well packed. I have had several of these P2 Volvo's over the years and the side mirrors falling off the backing plate is a very common problem. I've tried several different fixes including replacing the entire mirror assembly (most expensive/most work), replacing just the glass (cheapest but not a good solution vis-à-vis the heating element or ease of installation), and finally this solution--which is the best I've tried so far. You pop the old one off from the outside edge by pulling the backing plate away from ... '06 Volvo V70 2wd turbo passenger's side mirror including backing plate, locating tabs, and heating element. An exact replacement down to the mold marks. Mounted perfectly. Reasonable shipping time--neither super fast or USPS slow (I think it came DHL in like 4 or 5 days). Well packed. I have had several of these P2 Volvo's over the years and the side mirrors falling off the backing plate is a very common problem. I've tried several different fixes including replacing the entire mirror assembly (most expensive/most work), replacing just the glass (cheapest but not a good solution vis-à-vis the heating element or ease of installation), and finally this solution--which is the best I've tried so far. You pop the old one off from the outside edge by pulling the backing plate away from the housing (toward the rear of the car) and inserting something like a flat head screwdriver in the gap (using a good penlight) and prising it off with a snap, then it will come free with a little finagling. Remove the wires for the heating element (carefully--I had to solder one wire onto the element tab because the terminal disintegrated from corrosion). Attach the guides (2). Then slip it back in, inside (toward the car) end first. Be sure to get the guides into the receiving slots (penlight) and then press it home until it clicks into place. I lubricated the outside end where it clicks into the bracket with WD40 first which I think helped--anyway it didn't hurt. This is the best/easiest solution to the problem--way better than gluing or sticking a new glass on at a reasonable cost ($20.32 with tax and free shipping).
