About this product

Product Information

This crowd-pleasing documentary celebrates the accomplishments of Oscar Robertson and the Crispus Attucks Tigers. Led by future NBA MVP Robertson, the Indianapolis high school team challenged racial prejudice in 1950s America. Future Harlem Globetrotter Hallie Bryant and All American Basketball star Willie Meriweather joined Robertson as they pounded the hardwood--and their opponents--along their way to becoming the first all-black team to be state champions in basketball.

  • Hard Work plus love equals Success in Many ways!

The faculty and staff along with the black community that these young men were from cheered these guys on. And the cheerleaders were simply ladies of color along with their spirit and dignity which is very lacking in today's world. I grew up towards the end of the era of school segregation and like the late Ray Crow and his lovely wife saw both the good and also the bad that segregation and integration elicited on all of the young people at this time. But perhaps the real success story is the fact that these young men(who are young enough to be my uncles) went on to become successful men of color. My mom was a teacher at this time and I saw her spirit in the faces of the educators at Attucks for you see she was also a high school history teacher whose students never forgot her. LJ Steele
