A tripod is the go-to stand for most photographers for camera stability, but there isn’t always room to set up a larger tripod. The Canon 500 monopod is a lightweight alternative that works well for taking nature photos or moving around a sporting event grabbing action shots. Made of aluminum construction, the monopod is durable and sturdy. A foam grip provides plenty of hand comfort and prevents slippage in the event of hand moisture. An attached hand strap lets you carry the monopod easily from shoot to shoot and gives you the opportunity to quickly move your camera to a different location when taking nature photos. Using the hand strap, you can also turn the camera pod into a makeshift shoulder mount for capturing photos on the go. Specifications for this mobile camera pod include a total weight of 1.1 pounds and an extension up to 64.5 inches. It has five sections that allows it to extend fully and remain durable. While the monopod extends to a little over five feet, it easily folds to 21.9 inches for traveling and storage. Supporting up to 8.5 pounds, the Canon 500 can hold a compact point and shoot digital camera for amateur photography or a professional, heavier DSLR camera and lens. It is also suitable for other photography electronics like a portable video camera recorder, a zoom scope, or a pair of binoculars. The Canon is compatible with most lenses and camera bodies. This versatile monopod makes the perfect companion for nature photography trips or for nature watching when scoping out future photography sites. The construction of this monopod includes a chrome plated mini ball head. The mini ball head swivels 360 degrees, allowing you to turn your camera in any direction when taking a photo. You can also use the monopod to tilt the camera using the ball head technology or for holding the camera pod out to take an aerial photo; it will get you an angle that would otherwise be impossible if you were manually holding the camera. The flip leg locks hold the leg firmly in place, so it doesn’t fold or bend during use.     Nice Monodpod

    I have the Canon 400 monopod and wanted a backup. What I like about this monopod is that is has a rotating ball at the end. This makes is easy to tilt up or down. I had a hard time locating one. This not only fit the bill but it was cheaper.

    Excelent product

    Failed after short use period

    An internal plastic piece broke after a month and only a couple of times used. The extension arm slid out and could no longer be clamped at all. Called Canon. No warranty on accessories. Disappointing.

    Quality for a nice price

    For the price and being a real canon product I'm very happy. Helps take much better photos . I will say I've had to adjust the nuts on it with an allen wrench and you have to be careful not to break the tightening rings on the extender leg, but again for the price , it can't be beat !
