I have RA, and my PT recommended a paraffin wax bath to ease the stiffness and pain in my hands. You must carefully read and follow the directions to be sure you don't under heat or over heat the wax. I use it first thing in the morning and in the evening before bed. The unscented paraffin works best (no conflicting aromas for anyone who is has allergies or who is asthmatic). Using the plastic bags gets the maximum benefit. After peeling off the dried wax, your hands feel really pliable and soft. Follow with an unscented light hand cream to retain the benefits. The only reason this unit does not get a 5-star rating is that the design is awkward. Although the tub is deep enough, you have to really reach up and over to submerge your hand. Once you use them up, you don't have to buy the HoMedics bags, bread bags (store-bought or King Arthur Flour) work beautifully as they are pleated. All-in-all, I am very pleased to have this unit. My hands thank me every day.
