  • V for Vendetta by Alan Moore

This graphic novel is what the new movie is based off of and thus the plot is very similar to the movie, however there is much greater depth and significant changes in the movie. The basic premise brings you into the underground resistance, lead by the character "V," against a totalitarian empire that had taken over England following a devestating catastrophe. In the movie, it was disease and threat of war; in the comic, I was less certain of exactly what had brought about the rise of the iron-handed state. In the end the premise is the same; it is the story of how this figure, "V," effectively turns this totalitarian state upside down and eventually makes it crumble. The artwork is artistic without being too cartoonish, and is meant for a more mature audience, ...

  • An interesting take on a post-apocalyptic future

Alan Moore does a good job of portraying what might become of us in a post-nuclear war world. He puts a lot more flesh on his characters than most of the "comic" writers do so this one has some substance to it. Although it falls a bit short of what I would like to see, and the characters don't really seem to offer many surprises, I have to say it is the most thought-provoking graphic novel I have yet read. I consider it superior to his other works and definitely superior to what I have seen from others. Worth a read.

  • My first review

The world has had a nuclear war and Great Britain has become a totalitarian government. The likes of homosexuals and minorities are soldiered away to their demise. The man in charge is Leader and a different part of that government is named a body part like the Nose or the fFnger. The master computer is known as Fate. The people are a controlled lot, they are monitored constantly and yet for all their unhappiness they remain complacent and do nothing. Enter the terrorist known as V... Donning a Guy Fawkes mask covering his secret identity he systematically murders the head men of the body parts of the government. (Whew.) The unraveling of the government and of V's own history is told and you the reader are thinking and questioning, pondering as you absorb, and hopefully ...

  • Remember remember the fifth of November

V for vendetta is an amazing piece of work. Both political and humane in nature, V for vendetta can be called one of Alan Moore's most impressive works. Done in 1988, the story takes place in 1997. The harmfully insane vigilante, V takes his revenge and lashes out at the new British government as well as the people who previously wronged him. Even if you didn't enjoy the movie, the comic is much more detailed and makes more sense. If you enjoy rebellion, chaos and psychological fun then V for vendetta is for you.
