    Fast and in beautiful condition

    Slight weathering of the dust cover and a lovely inscription to its previous owner on the inside of the front cover is the only thing which would distinguish it from a new book. I love this book. I was finally replacing a much used and disintegrating mass market paperback with a hardback. I was thrilled to find such a reasonably-priced and beautiful book.

    Ok but not great

    Description was not very detailed. The book was the edition I looked for but the book overall wasn’t in the condition I would want to shelve in my library. The dust jacket had “age spots” and several small tears - the book jacket looked to be less than pristine around the edges - the pages themselves are nice - I’ll keep it to loan out but will look for another to shelve.

    Perspective on Tolkien's Middle Earth

    The Silmarillion puts The Lord of the Rings in proper perspective. The LOTR series is a fantastic story, but in the grand scheme of Tolkien's creative mind it occupied only a small part of Middle Earth legend, lore, and history. The Silmarillion begins kind of slow with the creation of Middle Earth (which takes some time but essential), the Elves, Dwarves, and the advent of Morgoth and the creation of the Orcs. You can see how Tolkien was influenced by Greek and Roman mythology, Beowulf, tales of King Arthur, and other myths from a variety of cultures. This book also elaborates upon Sauron and where he came from, how he gained his power, and the creation of the ring. If you are a Tolkien fan, this is a definite read!

    1st Print 1st Edition Silmarillion

    The Silmarillion I bought is accurate and has an amazing map included. I enjoy a good history of Middle earth and this provided the means of reading about it!

    if you loved Lord of the Rings then you have to read this book. The Silmarillion is THE BOOK. this book is filled with how it all started. The stories are beautiful and makes the world that is Middle Earth come alive. if you ever wondered where Sauron came from the answer is here. Who was the first Elf King? the answer is here. Who was Galadriels family ? the answer is here. What was the cause of ill will between the Elves and the Dwarfs? the answer is here. All the answers told by the greatest story teller. The stories/histories are full of valor,bravery,beauty. as well as betrayal,evil deeds,and heartbreak. I've read this book several times. I will read it again. this is Tolikens greatest work.
