A big, honkin' printer. Good for what it does.
Though dot matrix printers are rather passe in this age of do everything ink jets, they do have their places. In my case I was looking for a printer to be able to print out hectograph stencils (tattoo transfer patterns). For that process it needs to be a dot matrix, and the high resolution of this printer makes it good for that use. In retrospect perhaps getting the narrower bed model would probably have been sufficient for my needs, but this offers the possibility of printing very large sheets if necessary. It was an easy "plug and play" hookup to a HP Visualize PC running XP Professional. Hook up the printer cable, add a printer, and pick the proper model from the menu. The manuals were readily downloadable off of the 'net. The resolution in graphics mode is pretty good. It's noisy, as ... I am getting a bit of smearing from the paper feeding through, but this is probably just the platten or rollers needing cleaning. Not a big deal for now. It does take up a chunk of space, and would need even more if I was using the tractor feed for it rather than sheet mode. Which is another nice feature - there are multiple ways of running either sheet or perforated edge stock through it, depending on your needs. It'd be good for a business needing multipart NCR paper printing on large sheets. If you didn't need the size I'd suggest getting the smaller model. The price I paid ($70 including shipping) was reasonable in my opinion. It's an older technology, with little demand except for specialized uses, so used models shouldn't really go for much more than that. I saw another reviewer panned this printer. I'm not recommending it as a general printer - a good ink jet is much more useful overall - but if you need the dot matrix capability then this is a good one to get.

Tattoo stencil printer
Highly accurate printer. using for tattoo stencils with spirit paper. works much better then my old thermal stencil machine(approx.$299)there junk. for $50 bucks including shipping I have a great stencil maker, down loaded the drivers from companies website; up and running in about 30 min. only down sides.... tquite large 16" x 30" x 10" approx., and quite loud. But make excellant stencils.
