Power is not guaranteed from some USB C ports.
On some devices power is not supplied to this adapter. So, if you're not able to write to the SATA drive it may be because there is no power getting to the drive. You should see a red power light on the adapter if power is supplied from the USB C port. If it's not, get an adapter with the USB connector and plug into a USB 3.0 port.
