My experience now, with similar shirts (I LOVE the fabric) is that in long sleeve, the shirts are a slim Medium. In short sleeve or sleeveless cut, the nominal Mediums really are Large. I donated all those and then bought short sleeved and sleeveless in Small. Those body sizes are similar to the body size of long sleeved jerseys.

I wear a 46” jacket, and I ordered an XL. It is a loose fit. I believe a L will provide a tighter fit and be more useful as a base layer.
