Poor quality fit and manufacturing
There is an O-ring inside the housing to weather seal the circuit board and cable hole from the outside elements. The O-ring was broken in 2 places meaning there is not a water tight seal when it rains. The base gasket does not cover up the metal base plate like it is supposed to when mounted. I have purchased a Chinese copy of this antenna design that has a much better base gasket. I have not connected the power wire for the amplified portion of the antenna but it definitely needs it. Station reception is very weak and I live in the Houston Metro area with powerful radio station broadcasts that other short antennas have not had problems with. Works Awesome
Nice antenna, just take your time make a nice 9/16 square hole, the O ring is a little inadequate but apply a small bead of RTV silicone over the O ring before installing to insure no leaks if roof mounted like I did. Also make sure the spiked washer on the bottom has a good ground on the underside of the metal, Scratch it back and forth a few times before snugging the large nut. The antenna mast is fragile so don't over tighten it and remove it if you use car washes.
