For the most part this is a very good meter once it's set up. I found I had to lightly sand the probe to get it to read correctly. When I first got it I set it to moisture, put in in a glass of water and it read dry. Hmmm. All other functions also were off a tad except for the light meter which did't work at all. After lightly sanding the probe all worked well except for the light (which I really don't need). So take that for what it's worth.

It checks the temperature, soil moisture, sunlight, and pH. Pros: Lighted display for checking at night, easy to read displays, and gives quick readings. Cons: This tester is extremely delicate. The reason why it gets a low quality rating is the aluminum probe shaft bends very easily when inserting into hard soil and when pulled out of the soil, the sensor tip may break off into the soil. User Tips: Do not use this prober in soil that is hard and compacted. If the probe tip does not easily slide into the soil, then find another spot to test. Always insert the probe perpendicular to the ground to lower the probability of the probe shaft bending as it is inserted.

The 4 in 1 LCD Digital Moister, Temperature, Sunlight Meter, and PH Garden Soil Tester, in concept, is a brilliant idea and would be to a gardener what sliced bread is to a sandwich shop, IF it functions properly as the manufacturer intended and claims. The 4 in 1 digital tester that I received, however, was fatally flawed -- it operated properly only once (on the first attempt), and never did so again thereafter. For me, as an avid bonsai artist, the most critical and indispensable function that is boasted to have been incorporated into this device is the ability to accurately, reliably and consistently measure moisture. Temperature, light, and ph are also important; however, there have been more deaths of cultivated and (in)valuable plants due to improper watering than any other single cause or any other five causes combined. In light of this reality, I insist on total accuracy in any device claiming to measure moister. The 4 in 1 digital tester failed miserably in this respect. Fortunately, I tested out the device thoroughly (at least 20 times) before I placed my total confidence in and reliance on it (and I strongly recommend that any buyer do the same). Through testing, I determined that it was incapable of reliably and consistently measuring moister. I thereby avoided a potential disaster (for example, root rot/drowning) that could have resulted from my misplaced reliance on this device. Nineteen (19) out of twenty (20) moister tests performed on the same well-watered plant produced a reading of "dry+" which means that the condition of the plant was, ostensibly, as dry/dehydrated as the meter was capable of measuring. In actuality, if the plant had been any wetter, it would have needed a life preserver vest to stay afloat. From what I've read in other 4 in 1 reviews, this experience is neither an isolated incident, nor is it unique to me -- it is not an aberration, but a common fault that occurs with some regularity. If moister measurements are unimportant to you, then this device should serve you well. In all fairness to the manufacturer, I must admit that the light, temperature and ph meters seemed to perform reasonably well. However, if you have destroyed your plant(s) and impaired your investment through improper watering because of this 4 in 1 meter, then none of these other factors and device features matters one iota. You should require the 4 in 1 LCD Digital Moister, Temperature, Sunlight Meter, and PH Garden Soil Tester to earn your trust and reliance through thorough testing under a variety of conditions over a reasonable period time. One final word of caution: NEVER, never, never submerge this device's probe (or any other part) under water for ANY reason! This is a common mistake made by many in testing the device -- the device is NOT designed to operate as a submersible and, if doing so results in damage to the device, this misuse will likely void any warrantee and act to forfeit any return privilege. Please use this device only in a manner intended by the manufacturer! Read full review

This device works better than others I have tried. All functions worked well on my unit. I verified it's results against other digital tools I own and it did better than holding its own. I will be buying another one for a friend who is lusting after mine right now. I told him it cost $100 and he told me to order him one. Good thing he is cool or he'd be paying a $100. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he gets one for a 1/4 of that!
