Best all around Hi hats
I had a set of these that I purchased new back around 1985. They were rock solid, versatile, projecting, and you couldn't do anything to damage these through normal playing. Can't hardly scratch, ding or dent them, let alone crack them. They work in any situation. Like an idiot I sold my pair on Ebay as well as my other Zildjian Avedis cymbals that I purchase with my new Tama Imperial star kit at the time. But it was time to upgrade. I moved toward the Sabian AAX series cymbals, because I bought a used Mapex M birch kit that included a pair of Sabian AAX 13 in. stage hats. I fell in love with them and I now base my whole cymbal set on these hi hats. But the Sabians just don't hold their surface integrity as well as the Zildjians. They scratch and mar easily and hard to wipe down without ... I had a set of these that I purchased new back around 1985. But they still sound as good as they always did and structurally, overall, they haven't changed. They are lighter than the Avedis New Beat hi hats. I'd say the top New Beat hi hat is as heavy as the bottom AAX one. The AAX sounds a little shy and shallower, but they are still versatile. I can't still do just as much on them. But I regret selling my Avedis New Beats now.

A+ !!! GREAT set of hi hats. I am a starter, used heavy Z master sound hats, so I switched over to something a little lighter; not so think and. These cymbals have an elegant sizzle for blues and jazz, that also has the versatility to back up alternative and rock ensembles. Avedis Zildjian is the WAY TO GO! I have an avedis ping ride I bought in 2009, and these cymbals are a great addition to my set, which already includes a K custom session crash and a k custom hybrid crash. It's a MUST HAVE for any percussionist that doesn't want to break budget, but desires that sizzle and smash for rock n' roll!A+ !!! GREAT set of hi hats. These Zildjian A New Beat 14" Hi-Hat Cymbals are awesome! I bought a pair back in 1980 and still own that set. As I play professionaly, Its not always easy to replace what you like. Having 3 set ups can be time consuming, studio, practice, road. So when I saw these were selling on EBay, I used the oppertunity to now have a back up-second set. Is amazing how much they sound the same as my orgignal set as Zildjian is always consistant. The seller knew exactly what they had, and described perfectly. Currently recording our 4th CD and using these on the takes. They sound crisp and the tone is outstanding. Versatile and great sounding!
I've been using new beats for around 15 years and they are my go to hi hats. The first thing I look at when buying cymbals is how versatile they are because I play just about any style from jazz to heavy metal and everything in between. These hi hats have always sounded great and work well for me. They have a nice crisp sound that can be played lightly or heavy without sounding tinny or muddy. They are seriously the best hats for the price and some of the best sounding hats out there.
