The entire four years of the Pacific theater of World War II is detailed in the documentary APPOINTMENT IN TOKYO. The American Signal Corps, which for most of the war had been in charge of government film projects as diverse as training, industrial, and propaganda films, assembled the film at the end of the war. Footage was culled from a number of sources, including seized Japanese newsreels. The film covers battles in the Philippines, Okinawa, and Guadalcanal, and includes rare and disturbing footage of the infamous Bataan Death March. APPOINTMENT IN TOKYO provides a documentary record of how contemporary American filmmakers and the military viewed the war in which their country was involved.
