About this product

Product Information

Fans of both maritime history and America's past as a whole will be fascinated by this intriguing documentary. Though the SS United States appeared to be a luxury cruise ship, this vessel was actually designed to help America win the Cold War with its fireproof structure and record-breaking speed. SS UNITED STATES: LADY IN WAITING covers everything in the ship's history, from the blueprints for its construction to its status as a prime passenger liner in the 1950s and '60s to its quieter days.

  • The title says it all. The ship is waiting.

I found the subject matter very interesting. I do support the efforts to save the S.S. United States.

  • Sitting at a dock in Philadelphia...an American treasure...

I was delighted to see the documentary on the SS United States which sits at a dock rusting badly in Philadelphia. This is the fastest ocean liner ever built and it won the blue ribband several times Instead of turning it into a museum, it sits rotting in Philadelphia. I joined the on-going fund raising effort to save it and cherish the role in played in commerecial shipping and travel in the USA in the mid century of the 1900's.
