    GE Water filter out of box, loose inside when shaken, but should be OK.

    The filters are out of box, which I knew at the time of purchase. The protective plastic coating is not present as is another filter that I have in a box. When the filter is shaken something sounds loose inside, but not the filter that I removed from the box even after removing the plastic coating. I would just have to wait when my refrigerator calls for a new filter and I would replace it with one that I just bought "out of the box". I hunch is the filters are just fine.

    OEM filter

    This is the filter GE says takes out all the bad stuff in water including drugs that people flush down the drain. Expensive but if you want to keep the best water you need it.
